Child protection at Makonjemare

Child Protection Sensitization Meeting in Makonjemare – 4th June 2025

On June 4th, 2025, the Learn! Foundation, together with officials from the education sector, local community leaders, and other government representatives, held an important meeting at our partner school in Makonjemare. The purpose of the meeting was to raise awareness and have open discussions with parents about key issues affecting children’s learning, safety, and overall well-being.

Parents, as the main caregivers of children, were encouraged to take an active role in understanding and addressing problems that can harm children's development. The topics discussed included:

  • Child pregnancy

  • Child abuse

  • Child labour

  • Parental responsibilities

These discussions aimed to help ensure that all children can attend school, stay in school, complete their education, and succeed in life.

During the meeting, Gladys, a lawyer by profession, spoke passionately about the importance of protecting children's rights. She said:

“Children are protected by law because they are human beings. Any adult who abuses a child in any way must be reported to the police. Parents must take full responsibility to keep their children safe and make sure they get justice if their rights are violated.”

The meeting was a success, and we believe it was a meaningful step toward creating a safer and more supportive environment for all children. We hope parents will take time to deeply reflect on the important issues that were discussed and take action where needed.
