Wilson's Journey of Resilience and Hope

This week, we shine a light on a young man whose unwavering passion for education continues to inspire us all. Meet Wilson, an 18-year-old student currently in his third year at Shimo la Tewa Secondary School, a national school in Kenya.  Wilson comes from a family of seven children, raised by a courageous single mother, whose family has faced more than its fair share of challenges. After his parents separated, Wilson’s father stepped away from his responsibilities, leaving the burden of providing for the family entirely on his mother’s shoulders. To make ends meet, she moves from house to house doing laundry and taking on any casual jobs she can find—just to put food on the table.  Despite these hardships, Wilson has remained determined to pursue his education. However, the journey has not been easy. With school fees out of reach, he has often been sent home, missing valuable class time and risking his future.

In May 2025, when Wilson was once again sent home due to lack of fees, a ray of hope emerged. He was referred to Learn! Foundation by Mark, one of our own scholars attending the same school. After hearing Wilson’s story, the Foundation stepped in to cover his school fees.  When Wilson received the news that his fees would be covered, his reaction was immediate and heartfelt; his face lit up with joy. His mother, was overwhelmed with gratitude.   “I am hurrying home to wash my uniform so I can get back to school very early tomorrow.”   said Wilson

Today, Wilson no longer fears being sent home for school fees. He is focused, motivated, and full of hope as he sets his sights on completing his education in 2026, with dreams of joining university and building a brighter future—not only for himself but for his family.

Your support is what makes stories like Wilson’s possible. Because of you, another bright mind stays in school, and a mother breathes a little easier knowing her son’s dreams are still alive.

Thank you for believing in the power of education. Thank you for believing in Wilson.
