SPOTLIGHT 12: Nurtured by Hope – Emanuel Juma’s Journey Through Education
Emanuel Juma is the fourth child in a family of eight. He was raised by his strong and hardworking mother, who sold fruits to care for her children. Even though money was always a problem, Emanuel never gave up on school. Still, going to university seemed like an impossible dream.
In his final year at Pwani University, Emanuel faced a big problem: he didn’t have enough money to pay his fees. Without this money, he might not have been allowed to finish his studies. His mother tried everything she could, but it still wasn’t enough.
That’s when Learn! Foundation stepped in. They saw Emanuel’s hard work and helped by paying the rest of his school fees. This meant he could do his final exams and finish his degree.
But the Foundation did even more—they also gave Emanuel support for his daily needs like food and transport. This helped him stay focused and feel more relaxed.
Thanks to this help, Emanuel finished his studies in April 2025 and will graduate in October 2025. It’s a proud moment for him, his family, and everyone who supported him.
Today, Emanuel is giving back. He now volunteers with Learn! Foundation to help other children who also need support to go to school. Just like him, they now have a chance for a better future.
Emanuel’s story shows how the right help, at the right time, can truly change a life.
