August Action at the Learn! Centre
Being a school break, the University, secondary and primary school scholars are home. For Learn! Foundation, its an opportunity to coach and mentor the 40 students we support in all those levels.
We have been able to integrate well our two programs every day. We have the Digital Empowerment for All Learners (DEAL) program and the Functional Literacy and Lifeskills (FULL) program. These are programs targeting in-school and out-of-school children , adolescents and young adults. Every time schools close, we review their end term school reports for our secondary scholars and we step in as their coaches to support them navigate the difficulties they have with some subjects especially Math and Science subjects. We support and guide them with their assignments given by the schools.
Three of our university students, who are themselves part of the Learn Foundation community, lead this program with guidance from Learn! Foundation staff. They are present at the Learn! Centre every day and dedicate their time and knowledge to supporting our scholars. They work in small groups or one-on-one, which proves to be very effective.
We also provide tips on how to study effectively and how to better understand exam questions. This way, the students not only improve their knowledge but also their study skills and test-taking strategies. Our goal is to strengthen their foundational knowledge and boost their confidence.
We are also pleased to integrate life skills training into these sessions. We walk alongside these students on their learning journey and witness their growth up close.
