When Courage Meets Compassion: The Story of Mark and Sarah

In the hot village of Mabirikani, Kilifi County, 18-year-old twins Mark and Sarah Taura grew up in a poor family with eight children. Their mother washed clothes for neighbors and their father did small jobs. There was almost no money for school.

Still, Mark and Sarah believed that education was the key to a better life. They did very well in school, but when they were accepted to national high schools, they could not pay the school fees and had to stop.

They did not give up. The twins went from office to office asking for help. One day, they met the Executive Director and Chairperson of the Learn Foundation. Touched by their courage, the Foundation gave them full scholarships.

This changed everything. Today, Mark is doing great at Shimo la Tewa High School, and Sarah is back at Mama Ngina Girls High School with new hope.
Mark says: “It was the first time someone outside our family believed in us.”
Sarah adds: “Now I know dreams are real, and no challenge is too big if you keep moving forward.”

Their story shows that education can open doors and change lives. It also reminds us that when kindness and opportunity come together, not only individuals but whole communities can be transformed.
